My name is Josh Jones, and I am a junior and I am studying Sport Management here at Lincoln College-Normal. I plan to graduate in the Spring of 2014 with the hopes of landing a job in sports field or getting a Graduate Assistantship. One thing that will help me in reaching my post college goal is the opportunity to have an internship. This upcoming semester I have an internship at Heartland Community College Fitness and Recreation Center which is a great opportunity to gain experience in my future profession. I will be starting in late August or early September under the supervision and guidance of the Director of Fitness and Recreation, Ryan Knox.
This internship is very important to me as it will put me one step closer to not only graduation, but I will have had valuable experience that I could put on a resume and stand out to potential employers. This internship will also put me directly in line for the type of job I would like to have after college which is in facility management. I wanted to work in facility management specifically because I enjoy the athletic atmosphere, and I would love to employ various programs designed for college students to participate in like intramural sports.
Internships are important for college students to take advantage of because it could really set you apart from other applicants they may be applying for the job you want. It shows that not only do you have the education for the job, but that you also have the experience. The more experience you have, the better you resume looks!
